Official Fitness Declaration

I am officially disturbed by my fitness level. I have been wanting to get into shape for a long time, but being pregnant 5 times or nursing during the past 5.5 years has slowed that down. Yes, I know, excuses, excuses!! But tonight I make an official statement of my intention to improve my fitness level. I played my second softball game this evening on the very formidable Frutzzo co-ed softball team.
As I hit the ball and started running to first base, I felt like all my muscles on the right side of my body from the quad to my side snapped in half. I have never felt that much pain from a muscle pull. By some stroke of good luck, I did fine last week and even scored twice. But tonight I demonstrated how truly out of shape I am. Not only that, but the scale always surprises me in a bad way. So it is time for big changes.

I decided to post this in order motivate me to track my progress and report back. I admire my good friend Jason for his marathon training efforts and for dedicating a blog to this experience. Of course I do not plan on training for a marathon, nor will I be reporting back all that often. But in order to not make official declarations without follow-up, I will report back in 30 days on my exercise success or lack thereof, on my improved eating habits, and on any measurable weight/inches lost. You might be saying that this does not interest you much, but this is my blog, so I get to write whatever I want.

Good idea Jenny!! I got fed up with all the extra weight and low energy a few months ago too. It is hard work but it is worth it! Babies sure do wonders to our bodies. Good luck and You can do it!!

Way to go Jenny! I've been working on getting into shape lately too...I gained so much weight with Benno and it's not coming off as easily as with the other boys.

Personally, I find it easier to stay on track if I'm accountable to someone...I've been doing a "challenge" with some friends where every 15 min of exercise we do equals 1 mile (or if I jog, I just count the actual miles I do since I run faster than a 15 min mile) so I have a minimum goal of 12 miles each week--the group goal is to run cross-country with our combined miles. I have a DVD now that I absolutely LOVE for doing some weight-training too. If you're interested in doing a challenge kind of thing like that, I'd be happy to do it with you.

Are you familiar with the Nike+ stuff too? You have a sensor in your shoe that tracks your workout with your iPod/Sportsband. Pretty cool and fun to see your progress that way too. We can go to the Employee Store next time you're here and get you all set up if you like!

You can do it!!!

Good for you! Between RAGBRAI (a big bike ride across Iowa) and the Olympics, I've gotten motivated to get back into shape myself. I ran a whopping 1 mile so far. Shocking that in the past week this is all I could manage to fit into my schedule, and shocking that 1 mile was actually difficult. But, you have to start somewhere. I vow that I will run another marathon someday, and I will participate in RAGBRAI (someday).
Good luck!!

Such a good idea! We should set up a team kinda thing like what Carol mentioned. We always talk about how we both need to be better, let's do it! I will help you and you help keep my butt motivated. Yes? And then we will go shopping as a reward. I want shoes...

P.S. No more making yummy brownies and then keeping them out on your countertop when I am around. Bad news there. How am I supposed to resist???

Thanks for your encouragement. And Carol, what a good idea with your friends. Carol and Nikki, I will take you up on your offers.

Theo has really been into the Olympics and loved the swimming and is now into the track and field. We were watching Tyson Gay and Theo told Terry that he thinks Terry should get into shape like Tyson. Theo said that if Terry continues to drink so much Diet Coke, his stomach will just get bigger and bigger and that his stomach should be as skinny as his (Theo's). So Terry and I will exercise this week!
