The following is boring, but something to motivate me . . .
I admit it. I watch way too much T.V. Just having it on in the evening has become a horrible habit. It all started when I have had long grading sessions or busy work to do for school, and I turn it on to have in the background. Of course one is not completely unaware of the T.V. while it is on, and I watched more and more, becoming way too familiar with various reality "stars" and too knowledgeable about Friends and Seinfeld reruns.
And yet, I am constantly moaning about how I have no time. Well, ultimate time-sucker. Enough!!
Did you know that the average American watches FOUR hours of T.V. per day. That is 28 hours a week and 2 FULL MONTHS in a year! I do not watch this much, but I do watch a lot. If you added up the number of hours Americans watch T.V., the value of that time assuming an average wage of $5/hour is $1.25 trillion. Not to mention all the negative images, violence and advertising that get in our brain.
I am posting this so I might feel a little more accountable.
I have heard various things on how long it takes to break a habit or how long it takes to form a new habit, but I think 100 days of no T.V. should get me on the right rack. Here is my disclaimer, I am not going to say that I do not find some entertainment value in T.V. So here is my exception. I will watch NEW episodes of my two favorite shows (can you guess what they are). That will be about 1 hour of T.V. a week. And I will be watching the Super Bowl IF the Vikings make it.
Good-bye Barefoot Contessa, farewell all you dancing stars and csi agents, adios big losers! And hopefully I just don't replace this with more web surfing!

Uh oh. I'm way above average. In my defense, I "watch" tv when I'm sewing which is a good portion of the day. And I limit the kids to two episodes of Sesame Street a day.
But I'm still in a lot of trouble.
This has been my thoughts lately too! It is amazing how you can go with out TV for years and then all of a sudden you find yourself sucked in and having to watch the next episodes. I haven't watched TV all week and feel really good about it--who cares if I don't know any of the American Idol contestants or who the biggest losers are and if the Good Wife solves another case or gets closer to solving her husbands scandels?! Thank you Jenny for echoing my thoughts and helping me be determined in my quest to not waste so much time.
I wish I could turn off the T.V. but I am not in charge of that electronic. At least we have a standing rule of no T.V. in our bedroom and the T.V. goes off during meals. Well, wait a sec Jenny, I guess I am not really watching it since e*s*pn puts me to sleep.
Hello my name is Linda. It has been 5 hours since my last reality show.
